Preface :

The OCDE has shown the importance of banks of biological samples in the development of biotechnologies;

"Scientific research and the development of biotechnologies in the post-genome era requires validated biological resources with quality assurance and trace guaranties. These biological resources are strategic stakes in the modelling and identification of genes of interest for the development of biotechnologies related to health, particularly for diagnostic applications and in the search for new therapeutic tools."

Role of the BIOBANQUE :

The Biobank Association consists of "a bank of information and biological samples, including human samples, intended for research".It has been recognized by the program "Biological Resource Centres"of the French Ministry of Research.

The Biobanque de Picardie Association carries out BRC activities in accordance with the definition of the OCDE working group: "These are specialized resource centres that acquire, validate, study and distribute collections of cultivable organisms (microorganisms, plants, animals, or human cells), replicable parts of these organisms (genomes, plasmids, DNA libraries) and viable but not cultivable organisms".

Missions :

  • Collection of biological samples and their conservation in aliquots

  • Storage and management of biological samples according to the protocols requested by partners

  • Retrospective biomedical appraisal and evaluation of part or all of the conserved biological samples

  • Non-disclosure of biomedical information associated with the samples

  • Disposal or sale of conserved samples

  • Services related to the label BRC (research contracts, storage and management of samples)

...................................................................

The BRC may also detain non-replicable
biological materials: tissues,
 tissue fragments, serum, sampless ...

Most BRCs maintain databases that are accessible to potential users. BRCs may also provide access to data analysis tools and to databases of molecular and physiological information on the collection".

                                  Expertise

The Biobank has financial support from the French
Ministry of Research and the FEDER for the acquisition
 of new cryopreservation equipments.
